Frazzled

I sat here looking at the blinking cursor for a few minutes not quite sure how to properly get across my feelings about today.

I don't want to come across as cruel. Or impatient. Or naive to what my job entails.

But there's not a pretty way to say it.

IT TOOK EVERYTHING IN ME TO NOT COMPLETELY LOSE IT ON THIS CHILD TODAY.

God love her, if she isn't payback for my prissy attitude growing up.

I was that mom today.

That frazzled, defeated mom with a tantrum throwing child.

Picture it. A school cafeteria full of parents. And my five year old throwing herself on the floor in a fit of rage.

I lost count of the dirty looks I received.

....

But tomorrow's a new day and we're going to try again.

Hopefully it'll involve less headbutting.

  1. Charlotte just went through a spell like that. I had to put a calendar up on the fridge and she had to earn 3 stickers/day for good behavior, being kind to her sister, using her manners, and not throwing tantrums.

And Mama can giveth stickers and she can taketh away....

Her goal: the birthday party of her dreams

If she failed: just cake and ice cream with the family

Cruel? Yes. A bit harsh? Maybe. But, Lord have mercy, after one week of MAJOR struggle, she got it. She is totally dialed in and on the straight and narrow.

Yesterday morning she even told me, "Mama, today I'm gonna choose to be good."

Well, thankyouverymuch! I'll take it! Maybe you can find something like that to help Olivia turn her funk around?

Good luck, Mama. And hang in there. We have all been there.

(And those Mama's giving you the evil eye? They were probably just counting their blessings it wasn't their child this time!)

  2. Aw, I'm sorry to hear this Jess. I agree with Blair about the other moms happy it wasn't their child....b/c believe me EVERY mom has been in that position. Don't let their dirty looks say otherwise. Wishing your sweet family a peaceful, tantrum-free weekend with lots of rest for Mama! xoxo
